RDD-1580 DAC

At its heart, the RDD-1580 makes use of Wolfson’s extraordinary WM8740 stereo digital-to-analogue converter. But where competitive products use only one of these converters to handle two channels, the RDD-1580 uses dual WM8740s in a complementary configuration which reduces noise and distortion well beyond what a single converter can provide.

Another RDD-1580 advantage lies in its input flexibility. A front panel USB input supports Apple iPod®, iPhone® and iPad® as well as streaming via Bluetooth with the included adapter. The rear panel PC-USB input supports files up to 24 bit/192kHz in asynchronous mode. Two sets of rear panel RCA-style coaxial and TOSlink optical digital inputs are optimized for LPCM data streams. This includes CDs 16-bit/44.1 kHz standard to high definition sources with 24-bit/192 kHz audio data.

RCD-12 CD PLAYER

Even after three decades of the compact disc the RCD-12 demonstrates that there is still more performance to be found from CD players. In common with its partners in the 12 Series, digital to analogue conversion is handled by the Wolfson WM8740 DAC chip. The WM8740 is more usually found in CD players at the very top of high-end audio and if you are ever intrigued to know just how your favourite CDs would sound on the world’s finest players, the RCD-12 will get you to within a hair’s-breadth.

In common with other 12 Series products, the RCD-12 can be controlled through either its front panel buttons and display, via its remote control handset, or via Rotel Link to an RT-12 and the Rotel Remote app for iPhone and iPad.

RCD-1520 CD PLAYER

Rotel has enjoyed a class leading reputation with their CD player designs since the introduction of the landmark RCD-855 in 1990, pronounced by critic Lewis Lipnick from Stereophile magazine Vol.13, No. 7 as “The steal of the century!” Now, with the release of the RCD-1520, they have produced a CD player that sets a new standard for the 21st century, takingfull advantage of the vast wealth of music now available on compact discs. The RCD-1520 utilizes a segmented power supply with a large toroidal transformer to minimize power supply “sag” and reduce hum emissions. All rectifiers, voltage regulation components and BHC low-ESR storage capacitors are carefully selected, not only for tight tolerance specifications, but in particular, for their sound quality. Both analog and digital circuits undergo this careful scrutiny. For the digital domain, they have specified the superb Wolfson DAC for advanced digital filtration and D/A conversion and Burr Brown low distortion op amplifiers. The CD transport is a high performance slot loading mechanism. The result of this attention to detail is a CD player that will remain a part of your reference audio system for years to come.

RA-12 INTERGRATED

The amplifier has always been the heart of a hi-fi system, but for the new audio landscape, amplifiers need ‘brains’. The brain of the RA-12 is the Wolfson WM8740 24 bit/192kHz DAC, most often found in high-end audio products, and it ensures that the RA-12 extracts the full potential from its digital and Apple® authorised USB inputs. Traditional audio is not forgotten however so the RA-12 also provides four analogue line-level inputs and a phono input. The RA-12 can be controlled from its front panel buttons, via a remote handset, or via an RT-12 and the Rotel Remote app for iPhone and iPad. The RA-12 is however not just about versatility, it is a very high performance 60 Watts per channel amplifier that puts music at the top of its priorities.
